The Logo Description

In Tshivenda "ngululu" is a noun that means a mountain antelope. While a "klipspringer" (known as "mbila" in Tshivenda), is also referred to as "ngululu" our particular interest is the greater kudu, the rare "mountain kudu- or berg kudu" which is an antelope whose habitat is the mountainsides!

Ngululu, the kudu, transcends cultural boundaries and has universal appeal. Interestingly, the word "ngululu" is used widely in many parts of Africa (e.g. in the RSA, DRC, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Kenya, Swaziland, etc.) either as a geographical, personal or, clan name. (The jury is still out as to whether the noun holds universal meaning in continental Africa.)

Globally, kudu horns have been used for ages as musical instruments at important community gatherings and festivities. In the Western world the horns are used as a part of the Scouting movement's Wood Badge training program which, when the kudu horn is blown, it signals the start of a Wood Badge training course or activity. The horn or a form of it is sometimes used as a "shofar" in Jewish ceremonies. In continental Africa, as in some world cultures, the horns are considered sacred as they are regarded as the dwelling place for powerful spirits, while in others they are considered as a symbol of male potency.

Its hide is, simply, a thing of beauty while its biltong is one of the most delicious!
